Chesterfield complete signing of Martin Smith after midfielder leaves Salford City

The 25-year-old has signed an 18-month deal.
He left Salford City by mutual consent on Monday.
He is James Rowe’s ninth signing since being appointed manager at the end of November.
Smith could make his debut in Chesterfield’s FA Trophy fourth round tie against Boston United on Wednesday.

Smith has made seven appearances for the Ammies this season, but has not been involved in the matchday squad in five of the last six matches.
He joined Salford in the summer of 2019 on a free transfer after being released by Swindon Town, penning a two-year deal.
Smith’s previous clubs also include Coleraine and Kilmarnock, as well as loan spells at Gateshead, Carlisle United and Chorley after coming through the Sunderland academy.
