A new farm shop and cafe has launched outside Chesterfield – offering a unique place to stop for a drink or a bite to eat.
Matthew and Lizzy Wood have launched a new farm shop and cafe at the Cutthorpe Creamery – which has been in Lizzy’s family for over 130 years.
The pair said they wanted to diversify the farm and provide a community hub. Their new venture also has a strong focus on local produce, whether that is milk from the cows they raise themselves or foods from across Chesterfield, Derbyshire and the Peak District.
The Derbyshire Times were invited for to look around the farm shop and cafe, and these 11 pictures show what to expect – will you be visiting in the coming weeks?
5. Great response from customers and Cutthorpe residents
When asked about the response after the farm shop and cafe opened last month, Matthew said: “We were really shocked, we couldn’t believe it on the first day. Weekends are definitely a lot busier than during the week, but it’s great to see people from the village come in time after time again to meet their friends, catch up, sit and read and book and to look at the cows.” Photo: Brian Eyre
Matthew said: “We’re trying to use the farm shop and cafe as an extension to the new dairy. We’re moving into a new dairy at the moment, where we’ll be able to produce ice cream and a lot more milk. It reduces the food miles - we try to keep it local where we can and support other local businesses.” Photo: Brian Eyre
The farm shop and cafe is currently open from 8.30am until 5.00pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Matthew added: “We’re just doing three days at the moment. As we move towards summer, we might look to extend it. We did think about the possibility of doing an evening a week, trialing a quiz night or a pie and pie night - something to get the community together and get people out who don’t go out very often.” Photo: Brian Eyre
